Abstract

Mapping a family of rays in a plane onto a second family by a reflecting contour is an important step in the design of two-dimensional nonimaging concentrators by the edge-ray principle. The condition of specular reflection yields a differential equation for the reflecting contour that is usually solved numerically. A set of equations is derived that gives the contour in closed analytical form. These equations are defined and yield the correct result also for edge rays of nondifferentiable boundaries.
