Abstract

Although methods for realizing a bipolar point-spread function using a spatially incoherent system are known, the conditions ensuring the feasibility of such a bipolar synthesis have not been completely addressed. A set of necessary and sufficient conditions on the bipolar point-spread function and its associated bias is presented. The zeros of the bipolar point-spread function are also investigated and used to establish sufficient conditions for the existence of a bipolar synthesis. A method of constructing bias functions using these sufficient conditions is presented. Several examples of bias construction are considered.
